UFC @ Colombian Independence Festival

In Miami, the capital of Latin America, honoring the independence of any nation south of Key West is arguably more relevant than that whole Fourth of July thing. So the Colombian Independence Festival, South Florida’s largest Latin American festival, is truly a party made for Miami. This annual shindig honors Colombia’s July 20, 1810 independence from Spain with a 25,000-strong crowd decked out in yellow, red, and blue. Sun Life Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens) will become ground zero for all things colombiano, with everything from a kids’ playground and ethnic foods to arts and crafts and shopping. And it wouldn’t be a fiesta without live tunes. Jorge Celedón, Orquesta Guayacán, Maelo Ruiz, Jhony Rivera, and Integración Casanova will take the stage and rev up the crowd with reggaeton, salsa, despecho, and more. Given Colombia’s impressive World Cup campaign, you can expect even more patriotism than usual. With more than 20,000 of your friends and neighbors also attending, you might want to carpool.
